Well-being through exercise during pregnancy
A growing belly is not the only change happening in your body during pregnancy. You’ve probably noticed that already. As your joints become more flexible, certain parts of your body can feel tight or tense. You also need to pay attention to your breathing and circulation in new ways. And that’s not to mention the changes happening in your pelvic floor and abdominal muscles.
Luhtavilla’s MamaYoga is designed specifically with these changes in mind, to support expectant mothers. Along with all the excitement and joy of pregnancy, you might experience swollen legs, tightness in your back, poor posture, or nausea — all of which can be eased through gentle movement.
If you’re experiencing pregnancy-related aches and pains, staying still might not be the best choice. In this case, movement really is medicine.
What is Luhtavilla´s MamaYoga like?
Yoga exercises strengthen the body while helping you find relaxation and calm. These classes combine strengthening, opening up the body, and calming the mind.
At the beginning of the class, we focus on breathing exercises and open up the upper body to make more room for breath. The breathing exercises and poses create space around the uterus and belly, especially opening the chest and revitalizing the shoulders.
The class then moves into more dynamic yoga poses that strengthen the lower body, improve circulation in the legs, and stretch tight muscles. We also pay attention to the fascia — the connective tissue around muscles — and include broad, caring movements to support them.
Throughout the class, we also bring awareness to the pelvic floor. Some yoga poses include conscious activation of these muscles, but it’s equally important to support their spontaneous, natural function. Both relaxation and pelvic stability play a key role in pregnancy yoga, helping the body adapt to changes and prepare for birth with more ease.
Towards the end, the class slows down with longer, calming poses that soothe the nervous system, finishing with relaxation.
Who is MamaYoga for?
Pregnancy yoga is suitable for all expectant mothers. You can start the course early in your pregnancy or join later (even in the final weeks) because the exercises are safe to do right up until childbirth.
No previous experience with yoga or any other exercise is needed.
If you practiced yoga before pregnancy or continued as usual in early pregnancy, get ready to slow down a bit now. In this course, you will learn how to adjust familiar poses to better suit your pregnancy and how to add new elements to your practice.
You’re welcome to join this course even if you speak Finnish. The instructor is happy to offer personal tips and guidance in both Finnish and English.

Courses
Mama courses are divided into several modules of the same level. Each module is numbered after the course name – the number does not indicate difficulty, as all modules are of equal level.
First-timers are welcome to join any module. You can sign up for any course, even if you haven’t attended before. Each module includes slightly different content, so even returning participants will find something new.
You can also pay using various exercise benefits. We accept all major exercise payment options, including Smartum, ePassi, and Edenred. Please note that these benefits are personal and can only be used by the individual they are issued to.
Sign up for the waiting list if the course is already full. We will notify those on the list first about any additional courses or open spots. We aim to add more courses for those that have a waiting list. Signing up for the waiting list is not binding but simply indicates your interest.
Don’t worry if you miss a class
Our courses require you to notify us of any absences. To be eligible for a replacement class, you must inform us before your scheduled class begins. Once you’ve let us know in advance, you can make up the missed session by attending another course class.
Your notification helps us free up spots for others to attend make-up sessions as well. So please always inform us of your absence to keep the system running smoothly!
- You can make up 2 missed classes per course.
- Report your absence using the form here.
- Book your replacement class here. Replacement classes must be used within one month after the course ends. The booking link also contains detailed instructions.
Alternative option: If you have more than two absences, you may request access to recorded sessions as an additional way to make up for missed classes. These recordings are a small collection of individual class videos (teaching language is Finnish). Please contact us by email at [email protected] to request access.
Yoga teacher
Heli Somero
Heli is an experienced instructor who has been practicing yoga for 15 years. She is a certified yoga teacher and also aerial yoga instructor. Heli has specialized in prenatal exercise and finds it meaningful to support the well-being of pregnant women through empowering practice of yoga.
As an instructor, Heli believes the most important thing is to create a safe and welcoming environment—one where people feel relaxed and free to listen to their own bodies.
